Book Description
The 2004-2005 Presbyterian Planning Calendar is now available. Using the theme The Word in the World, the new calendar explores God's Word at work in the world and the mission of the church as the living witness of the Word. The captivating artwork of Chinese artist He Qi offers a visual interpretation to the selections from the Book of Order and from the Bible that appear on the pages for June 2004 through May 2005. He Qi is a professor at the Nanjing Union Theological Seminarya school with ties to the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), a member of the China Art Asssociation, and a council member of the Asian Christian Art Association. He "ranks as arguably China's most internationally sought after contemporary Christian artist," according the Far Eastern Economic Review. He Qi's own story reflects God's Word at work in the world. As a middle student during the Chinese Cultural Revolution, he came across a print of Raphael's Madonna and Child in a magazine. Deeply moved by the smiling Madonna and child, he felt a peace he had not known and began to paint and draw the Madonna and child in secret. His encounter with Raphael's painting led him to find out about the Christian faith and eventually to become a Christian. The calendar also features: Calendar pages for June 2004 through December 2005 Lectionary for the Lord's Day and liturgical colors Liturgical days and PC(USA) programmatic emphases Planning suggestions throughout the year for congregations Synod, presbytery, and General Assembly staff directories
